Legal and technical assistance for the AfCFTA Secretariat for the phase II IPR negotiations

The main objectives of this activity include:
- providing legal and technical support to the AfCFTA Secretariat and AU Member States on the AfCFTA Protocol on IPR;
- providing legal and technical support to the AfCFTA Secretariat and AU Member States regarding the development and negotiation of the annexes on the various IP areas;
- assisting in the preparation of technical documents for the negotiations;
- drafting the initial text of the various annexes;
- providing specific legal advice at the request of the Secretariat and the AU Member States;
- providing capacity development for key stakeholders in the negotiation of the annexes, as well as awareness-raising activities on the IP protocol.
The expected result from this activity is to effectively contribute to the finalisation of the nine annexes to the IPR Protocol in line with international best practices.
