Communication Training on the ARIPO Regional Intellectual Property Rights System

Harere, Zimbabwe

8 to 10 Oct 2022

There was a need for government communicators and journalists to be equipped to effectively inform their audiences of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) Regional Intellectual Property Rights System, which could be used to raise awareness at a national, regional, and global level.  This is because they might not know how to identify and synthesise intellectual property (IP) information so that it can be consumed by the stakeholders (e.g., the general public, innovators, investors, IP agents/attorneys, and IP bodies).

Hence, this event aimed to:

  • provide insight on the different aspects of the ARIPO Intellectual Property Rights System;

  • help the participants document information accurately for future resources;

  • provide training on how to create awareness and synthesise and package IP information so that it can be consumed by the public;

  • provide training on how to communicate IP stories accurately, as well as the resources they can consult;

  • create a network of government information officers and journalists across the ARIPO member and observer states.
