Consultative roundtable on counterfeiting in Nigeria

Lagos, Nigeria

1 to 2 Nov 2022

An activity on counterfeiting took place in Nigeria on 1-2 November 2022. This activity was planned following a consultative roundtable for the Organisation Africaine de la Propriété Intellectuelle Member States in 2021, which aimed to exchange best practices and identify actions against counterfeiting and piracy in the pharmaceutical sector.

The objectives of this activity were the following:

  • raise awareness among the African intellectual property rights (IPR) enforcement authorities and other IPR enforcement officials on counterfeiting and piracy;

  • provide a platform to discuss the trends and continuing challenges faced by enforcement authorities on IPR enforcement;

  • provide a platform for Intellectual Property (IP) attorneys and other IP system users to share experiences and best practices in handling IPR enforcement matters through legal channels;

  • establish networks among participants to support, facilitate and coordinate IPR enforcement to strengthen efforts and systems used to detect, deter and punish the trafficking of counterfeit goods.
