Global Perspectives on Geographical Indications Conference Conference

Montpellier, France

5 to 8 Jul 2022

The Global Perspectives on Geographical Indications – An international conference for researchers, policymakers and practitioners will take place from 5 to 8 July 2022 at Montpellier (France).
AfrIPI is one of the partners of this international conference, which is organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement (CIRAD). It aims to discuss the most recent research and implementing practices for geographical indications (GIs) in all regions of the world: Europe, Asia/Oceania, Africa, South America and North America. This conference will contribute to identifying opportunities for development at the national, regional and international levels and bring new ideas as a source of creative inspiration.
AfrIPI will be part of the European Union Intellectual Property Office Delegation on GIs, which will be represented by the EU-funded team member, Alexandra Mayr, on behalf of the Institutional and Cooperation Department. Alexandra will present a summary of GIs within the geographical areas covered by the EU-funded team. Additionally, AfrIPI will have a technical session at the conference to discuss the innovative approaches to protecting and promoting GIs in Africa following the African Union Continental Strategy.
