AfrIPI and the Africa IP SME Helpdesk on how IP contributes to sustainable growth and development within the event Energising Africa: Exploring Renewable Energy Opportunities
The European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) led the discussion on how IP contributes to sustainable growth and development. The discussion took place within the broader seminar Energising Africa: Exploring Renewable Energy Opportunities in French African Regions, on 26 September 2024 in Cameroon and Slovenia, in close collaboration with the Slovenia Cameroon Business Club, within the context of the EU-funded “Africa Intellectual Property Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Helpdesk (Africa IP SME Helpdesk)” and “Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation in Africa (AfrIPI) project”.
The hybrid event gathered industry leaders, investors, policymakers and stakeholders to explore the dynamic potential of renewable energy and it is a vivid witness to EUIPO´s unwavering commitment to support EU business in third country markets and the growing importance of Africa in the EU´s external trade..
The EUIPO, currently responsible for the Africa IP SME Helpdesk presented a topic titled ‘IP Protection: Cases in Africa’, providing attendees with valuable information on the technical aspects, tools and resources related to the IP landscape within the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) and the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) regions, EUIPO strategic partners in the continent. Focus was also placed on networking with stakeholders and European SMEs to discuss the significance of IP in business operations, and gathering information and contacts from stakeholders to assess the IP areas of interest in Africa.
