Evaluation and support for the AU Continental Strategy for GIs
In 2024, at the request of the African Union (AU), the AfrIPI project would support the AU in taking stock of the progress made in implementing the Continental Strategy for Geographical Indications in Africa (2018-2023). This activity will include presenting findings at key forums such as validation meetings, the AU Consultative Committee Sand the Africa Session at the FAO-CIRAD Worldwide Conference on Geographical Indications (GIs).
The activity aims to evaluate the strategy’s achievements in leveraging GIs as tools for economic growth and cultural preservation across Africa. Additionally, AfrIPI will assist the AU in developing the next Continental Strategy for GIs in Africa, building on lessons learned and aligning with emerging priorities to promote African-origin products in regional and global markets.
