Support to the development of national framework for copyrights in Equatorial Guinea

01 Jan 31 Dec

Effective protection of copyright and related rights ensures the contribution of the cultural sector to the economy through the emergence and development of the cultural industry. In this mechanism, the role of collective management is essential. Equatorial Guinea, an OAPI member state, has not yet implemented collective management of these rights. The country has two legal instruments, dating back from the 19th century, which have fallen into disuse, creating a de facto legal vacuum. AfrIPI, in close collaboration with OAPI, will support the revision of the copyright law and the establishment of a structure for the collective management of copyright and related rights, through awareness raising of national stakeholders on the need to protect literary and artistic creations, and the preparation of a national law, in close consultation with them.
