First meeting of the ARIPO sub-group of the ad hoc working group on GIs

Following the election of Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia to form the ad hoc sub-working group on geographical indications (GIs) on 22 March 2022, the first meeting of this sub-group will take place online on 16 June 2022.

The aim of the sub-group of the ad hoc working group is to discuss the most suitable legal framework for the protection of GIs in the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) Member States.

The objectives of this meeting are:

to clarify the thematic areas that will guide the work of the sub-group;
to present the first draft of the consultant’s work tasked more generally with the needs assessment for the management of GIs in the ARIPO region, according to the thematic areas;
to collect general comments from the delegates of the sub-group, especially concerning their input under the abovementioned thematic areas and their expansion in their country and, more broadly, in the ARIPO region;
