AfrIPI celebrates innovation in Mozambique: Boosting IP for a sustainable future
The Intellectual Property Rights & Innovation in Africa (AfrIPI) recently celebrated World Intellectual Property Day and the 20th anniversary of the Mozambique Industrial Property Institute (IPI) with a successful visit to Mozambique. The visit highlighted Mozambique’s significant progress in intellectual property (IP) protection and paved the way for future cooperation.
The AfrIPI delegation met with the EU Delegation to Mozambique to discuss ongoing IP projects and to chart a course for future initiatives. Recognising the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as drivers of innovation, AfrIPI also met with Mozambican SMEs. The session focused on empowering SMEs by demystifying IP and its potential for business growth. By protecting their intellectual assets through IP rights, businesses gain the confidence to expand into new markets, forge strategic partnerships, and gain a competitive edge. AfriIPI also launched the Africa IP SME Helpdesk, a valuable resource for SMEs navigating the world of IP protection.
The visit culminated in a celebration of World IP Day and the IPI’s 20th anniversary. The event showcased the IPI’s remarkable achievements through a video presentation. The speeches highlighted the strategic use of IP to attract investment, aligning perfectly with this year’s World Intellectual Property Day theme: ‘Intellectual Property and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Building our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity.’ By protecting unique innovations and products through IP rights, Mozambique contributes significantly to a more sustainable future.
