The OAPI joins DESIGNview

As from 26 May 2025, the African Organization of Intellectual Property (OAPI) has made its design data available in the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) DESIGNview search tool.

With the addition of around 3 500 industrial designs from the OAPI, DESIGNview now provides information and access to over 23 million industrial designs from 75 participating offices.

Since its launch on 19 November 2012, DESIGNview has been used for 10,2 million searches from users worldwide, with the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom being among the most frequent visitors.

The EUIPO has long been a pioneer in providing free, high-quality data to promote market openness and transparency. The integration of OAPI’s design data into DESIGNview is a tangible result of the EUIPO’s ongoing collaboration efforts in Africa, building strategic alliances with IP offices to improve data access. This initiative has been further supported by the EU-funded IP cooperation project ‘AfrIPI’.
