Technical training on trade marks for examiners, and engagements with IP agents of ARIPO Member States

This activity focuses on enhancing the technical skills of trade mark examiners, IP agents, and IP attorneys in ARIPO Member States. The objective is to improve trade mark examination and opposition processing in terms of efficiency and quality. Emphasising the use of EUIPN tools, mainly the Harmonised Database (HDB), the activity aims to address challenges in harmonising trade mark laws and raise awareness of topical IP issues. Ultimately, the goal is to promote economic and technological development in the ARIPO region, aligning with the AfCFTA Agreement and enhancing trade and investment between the EU and Africa.

Objectives:

-Providing technical training on substantive trade mark examination and oppositions;

-Facilitating experience-sharing and networking among trade mark examiners, IP agents, and IP attorneys;

-Highlighting the benefits of EUIPN tools, especially the Harmonised Database (HDB);

-Enhancing the skills and efficiency of participating examiners;

-Providing improved technical skills, updates on IP developments, and networking opportunities for participating IP agents and attorneys;

-Implementing a train-the-trainer approach for a broader impact.
